Be Certain of God From Mysteries of God’s Names

Afterward, I browsed and subscribed to the channel of CAG on Youtube, and began to secretly investigate Almighty God’s work in the last days. One day, I took advantage of the rest time during my work to visit the website of CAG and I saw this passage of God’s words “The Savior Has Already Returned Upon a ‘White Cloud’” say, “‘Jehovah’ is the name that I took during My work in Israel, and it means the God of the Israelites (God’s chosen people) who can take pity on man, curse man, and guide the life of man. It means the God who possesses great power and is full of wisdom. ‘Jesus’ is Emmanuel, and it means the sin offering that is full of love, full of compassion, and redeems man. He did the work of the Age of Grace, and represents the Age of Grace, and can only represent one part of the management plan. … In each age and each stage of work, My name is not baseless, but holds representative significance: Each name represents one age. ‘Jehovah’ represents the Age of Law, and is the honorific for the God worshiped by the people of Israel. ‘Jesus’ represents the Age of Grace, and is the name of the God of all those who were redeemed during the Age of Grace. If man still longs for the arrival of Jesus the Savior during the last days, and still expects Him to arrive in the image He bore in Judea, then the entire six-thousand-year management plan would stop in the Age of Redemption, and would be incapable of progressing any further. The last days, furthermore, would never arrive, and the age would never be brought to an end. That is because Jesus the Savior is only for the redemption and salvation of mankind. I took the name of Jesus for the sake of all the sinners in the Age of Grace, and it is not the name by which I shall bring the whole of mankind to an end.” I tried over and over to figure out these words. Almighty God clearly explains the meaning of these two names, Jehovah and Jesus, and His disposition represented by each name adopted by Him in every age. It turned out the name taken by God in each age only represents that age. The name Jehovah, which was taken during God’s work in the Old Testament Age of Law, represents His disposition of mercy and curse; The name Jesus, taken by God only in the Age of Grace, represents His disposition of compassion and love. This was when I understood: God’s name is not eternally unchanging, and God will have a new name when He performs a new stage of work. So it seems that the Lord will take a new name when He returns. This makes sense.

I continued reading God’s words, “I was once known as Jehovah. I was also called the Messiah, and people once called Me Jesus the Savior because they loved and respected Me. But today I am not the Jehovah or Jesus that people knew in times past—I am the God who has returned in the last days, the God who shall bring the age to an end. I am the God Himself that rises up at the ends of the earth, replete with My entire disposition, and full of authority, honor and glory. People have never engaged with Me, have never known Me, and have always been ignorant of My disposition. From the creation of the world until today, not one person has seen Me. This is the God who appears to man during the last days but is hidden among man. He resides among man, true and real, like the burning sun and the flaming fire, filled with power and brimming with authority. There is not a single person or thing that shall not be judged by My words, and not a single person or thing that shall not be purified through the burning of fire. Eventually, all nations shall be blessed because of My words, and also smashed to pieces because of My words. In this way, all people during the last days shall see that I am the Savior returned, I am the Almighty God that conquers all of mankind, and I was once the sin offering for man, but in the last days I also become the flames of the sun that burn all things, as well as the Sun of righteousness that reveals all things. Such is My work of the last days. I took this name and am possessed of this disposition so that all people may see that I am a righteous God, and am the burning sun, and the flaming fire. It is so that all may worship Me, the only true God, and so that they may see My true face: I am not only the God of the Israelites, and am not just the Redeemer—I am the God of all creatures throughout heavens and earth and seas” (“The Savior Has Already Returned Upon a ‘White Cloud’” in The Word Appears in the Flesh).

Those words with God’s authority shocked my heart. If it were not for God’s personal utterance, who would uncover the mystery of His name so clearly? The more I read, the more I felt these words are indeed the truth and God’s voice. I thought of a verse in the Bible, “However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come” (John 16: 13). I pondered: “Yes! Isn’t the one who can tell us those mysteries only God Himself? I’ve heard many prestigious pastors’ sermons, but none of them can explain the meaning of the name of Jehovah and Jesus. Those pastors all preach some specious theories based on their imagination and inference, which can’t convince us. It seems that Almighty God most likely is the appearance of the Lord Jesus.” At that time, I replayed in my mind every scene of how I had treated Almighty God’s work, and I felt ashamed and regretted that I had easily resisted and condemned God’s work without investigating. This really was “being clever all one’s life, but ruined by a moment of foolishness” and “suffering for one’s wisdom.” I told myself: “I must no longer uphold myself. Were the Jewish Pharisees back then not cursed and punished by God for resisting and condemning the Lord Jesus’ work by relying on their conceptions and imaginations and the literal words of the Bible? I must learn from the Pharisees’ failure by setting aside my notions and imaginations and seeking and studying God’s work in the last days. And I must not follow in the footsteps of the Pharisees and become a person who resists God.”

In the days that followed, I read many of Almighty God’s words. The more I read these words, the more I, from my heart, firmly believed these words are the voice of the Creator. God’s words contain within them judgment of and admonitions to humans and reveal His holiness and unoffendable disposition, so we can’t help developing a reverence for God. After having such an understanding, I could not help but recall that not only had I not sought or examined God’s work in the last days, but instead all the time I tried to prevent my wife from believing in Almighty God. Did I not resist God? Thinking of these, I was overwhelmed by pain and misery within as if there was a thorn in my chest and I even felt fearful. At that moment, I was extremely remorseful. Thereupon, I repented to God silently in my heart and confessed my sins, begging for Him to forgive me. From then on, whenever I was free, I would secretly read Almighty God’s words and watch the gospel movies of CAG. And these movies, especially The Mystery of Godliness, The Mystery of Godliness: The Sequel, Faith in God, and so on, moved my heart. Those true experiences, moving scenes and clear debates about the truth made me even more determine that Almighty God is the appearance of the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus has really returned and He is Almighty God. I wanted to attend meetings, but could not put aside my pride to tell my wife my thought. Thinking about my actions of obstructing her from accepting Almighty God’s work those days, I wanted nothing more than to slap myself in the face. Then I became lost in thought: My wife’s insistence is right! I never imagined that though I’m more knowledgeable and well-informed than her, I’m not smarter than her in the matter of believing in God. God’s work truly exposes and reveals man! Alas! Neither did I imagine that over this past year, I’ve seemingly been competing with my wife when actually I’ve been resisting God. How arrogant I am! However, God has tolerated and graced me. Through His words, God enlightens and guides me, so I can listen to His voice and my heart awakens gradually. Because of my past actions, I feel I’m unworthy of God saving me through His painstaking efforts. No, I can’t fail God again and I must accept Almighty God’s work in the last days as soon as I can. However, if I bow my head down, what will my wife think of me? In that period of time, I always felt an intense battle raging in my heart. I desired greatly to tell my wife that I wanted to accept Almighty God’s work in the last days, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it.

Afterward, every time when my wife came home from a meeting, I would ask her, “What have you fellowshiped about today?” Once, after I asked her, she looked at me in a puzzle and said, “Since you don’t believe, why do you ask this? We just fellowship about God’s words and our personal experiences at every meeting.” Once again after she came back from her meeting, I asked her, “You went to attend a meeting today? What have you fellowshiped about today?” She seemed to find my change and said, “Hey, you always ask me about my gatherings. Do you want to listen? Could I let the brothers and sisters from CAG come to communicate with you?” In fact, what I wanted was just these words, but I felt somewhat embarrassed and said, “Alright, since you ask me, I shall not reject you.” Then, the brothers and sisters from CAG came to share with me God’s last days’ work. After that, I gradually began to attend meetings normally.

One day, at a meeting, we read two passages of God’s words, “Some say that the name of God does not change, so why then did the name of Jehovah become Jesus? It was prophesied of the coming of the Messiah, so why then did a man by the name of Jesus come? Why did the name of God change? Was not such work carried out long ago? Cannot God this day do a new work? The work of yesterday can be altered, and the work of Jesus can follow on from that of Jehovah. Cannot then the work of Jesus be succeeded by another work? If the name of Jehovah can be changed to Jesus, then cannot the name of Jesus also be changed? This is not unusual, and people think so only due to their simple-mindedness. God will always be God. Regardless of the changes to His work and His name, His disposition and wisdom remain forever unchanged. If you believe that God can only be called by the name of Jesus, then you know too little” (“How Can Man Who Has Defined God in His Conceptions Receive the Revelations of God?” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). “You should know that God originally had no name. He only took on one, or two, or many names because He had work to do and had to manage mankind. Whatever name He is called by—did He not freely choose it Himself? Would He need you—one of His creatures—to decide it? The name by which God is called is a name that accords with what man is capable of apprehending, with the language of mankind, but this name is not something that man can encompass. You can only say that there is a God in heaven, that He is called God, that He is God Himself with great power, who is too wise, too exalted, too wondrous, too mysterious, and too almighty, and then you can say no more; this little bit is all you can know. This being so, can the mere name of Jesus represent God Himself? When the last days come, even though it is still God who does His work, His name has to change, for it is a different age” (“The Vision of God’s Work (3)” in The Word Appears in the Flesh).

The brothers and sisters fellowshiped, “Originally, God had no name, and He is called by different names owing to the requirements of His work. The name God takes in every age is quite meaningful, and represents His work and disposition expressed during that age. God uses a name to change the age and represent the age. Yet, no matter how God’s name changes, His intention of saving humans never changes, so does His righteous and holy substance and what He has and is. In the Age of Law, God used the name Jehovah to do the work of that age. He issued laws and commandments and led the newborn mankind in their life on earth. And He demanded man to strictly abide by the law, learn to worship and magnify God. Blessing and grace followed whoever complied with the law. Whoever violated the law would be stoned to death or incinerated by the fires of heaven. The name Jehovah represents God’s disposition of mercy and curse in the Age of Law. At the end of the Age of Law, since humankind had become more and more corrupt, there was no way for people to continue upholding the law and everyone was facing the constant danger of being put to death for violating the law. God showed compassion for mankind, did not want to see people put to death under the law. Consequently, according to the need of mankind, God was incarnated on earth. And under the name of Jesus, He opened up the Age of Grace, concluded the Age of Law, and carried out His work of redemption. During the time when the Lord Jesus worked, He expressed His compassionate and loving disposition, gave man abundant grace, and in the end was nailed on the cross to completely redeem man from sin. From then on, anyone who prayed to Jesus and hallowed His name could enjoy God’s redemption and abundant grace. So the name Jesus represents God’s work of redemption and it also represents His disposition of mercy and love in the Age of Grace. Though we humans were redeemed from sin, we still haven’t cast off the sinful nature and live in a situation of sinning in the day and confessing at night. In the last days, on the foundation of the Lord Jesus’ work, God does a stage of work of purifying and saving people with His words. He has ended the Age of Grace and brought the Age of Kingdom. Therefore, in the last days, God’s name has changed to Almighty God, and He has appeared to us with His disposition of righteousness, majesty and wrath, which will not tolerate offense. Even though in each age, God has a different name, does different work, and expresses different dispositions, the three stages of work are done by one God. The three stages of work rise and proceed deeper step by step, and are tightly linked together. Only by accepting God’s work in the last days are we following the Lamb’s footsteps. Those who have undergone the judgment of God’s words and have been cleansed of their corrupt disposition will be taken by God into His kingdom in the end, enjoying eternal blessings.”

Through the fellowship of the brothers and sisters, I had much clearer understanding of the meaning of God’s name in each age and my heart was even more enlightened. Afterward, I studied the Bible and found that actually the Bible has long ago prophesied that God’s name in the last days is Almighty God. For example, Revelation 1:8 says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, said the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 11:16-17 says, “And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell on their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give you thanks, O LORD God Almighty, which are, and were, and are to come; because you have taken to you your great power, and have reigned.” There are also many other verses in the Bible which prophesy that God’s new name in the last days is the Almighty, that is, Almighty God. Having understood the mystery of God’s name, I hated myself for being too foolish and without reason—I just held on to the Bible’s literal words and defined God’s work and name based on my conceptions and imaginations. If not for Almighty God expressing words to reveal all the mysteries, even if I kept clinging to the Bible all my life, I would not be able to understand the truth of God’s name. Also, I would be abandoned and eliminated by God’s work. Thank God very much for His salvation for me!

I have attended meetings in CAG for several months. The more I read God’s words, the more I feel I am unworthy of God’s compassion and salvation. I am full of debt toward God and also hate those who make up rumors against and condemn CAG, which nearly caused me to lose the chance of being saved by God. Meanwhile, I deeply feel Almighty God’s great tolerance and mercy toward me, a son of disobedience. Today, it is God who has given me the opportunity to live, and I will pursue the truth hard, pursue a change in my disposition, and bear witness to God, repaying God’s love and comforting Him!

Thank Almighty God! All the glory be to Almighty God!
